What is EOB extraction?

An Explanation of Benefits (EOB) is the document a dental insurance payer sends to explain how a claim was adjudicated—what was billed, what the plan allowed, what it paid, what was written off, and what the patient owes. EOB extraction is the process of reading that document and converting it into structured data a billing system can use.

Done manually, extraction means a team member reading a scanned or PDF EOB line by line and typing the figures into the practice management system. Why EOB extraction still matters

Electronic remittance advice (ERA, the 835 file) automated most payment posting years ago.
